It is impossible to remove all the dust from the palace with a regular broom or vacuum cleaner. It accumulates inside for months and years, leading to allergic reactions. Qualitatively clean the carpet at home can be done in various ways. But, choosing the best-improvised means, you need to take into account many factors:
- pile and base material;
- the degree of wear of the product;
- the nature of the pollution.
In addition, it is worth taking into account the time of year, the size of the product, and other factors.

Cleaning with and without a vacuum cleaner
Do not be very upset if there is no vacuum cleaner. This unit, of course, dramatically facilitates life but is suitable only for daily surface cleaning. He is not able to clean the carpet to a perfect state.
If the crumbs and dust ordinary vacuum cleaner partially removes from dirt and stains, it can not help.
This unit is not able to qualitatively collect hair or animal hair from the carpet. Therefore, most of these contaminants have to be removed by other methods.
Cleaning with a cleaning vacuum cleaner
It is worth stopping at washing vacuum cleaners (Kercher, Thomas, Zelmer, etc.). These units have a different principle of operation and can cope even with a very dirty palace. Hair, spots, cat hair, and other garbage will also not be a problem.
Several unique tools are designed to be added to the capacity of a washing vacuum cleaner. They perfectly cope with almost all types of spots. Such cleaning may well replace dry cleaning services.
Before starting the cleaning, you need to study the label of the carpet carefully.
The washing vacuum cleaner is strictly forbidden to clean products from:
- natural fabrics (cotton and linen);
- with a pile of more than 15 cm.
Handmade products are also not recommended to be treated with a washing vacuum cleaner. It is better to apply professional dry cleaning to them.
Without problems, contact with a washing vacuum cleaner is carried by carpets made of tufting, synthetics, and semi-synthetics.
Knitwear should be cleaned with great care, as they do not tolerate contact with water (dry for a very long time).
Cleaning the carpet with a washing vacuum cleaner is quite simple. The main thing is to follow the instructions for a particular unit and choose the appropriate detergent. Further, all stages are standard:
- assemble a vacuum cleaner;
- fill the tank with water with the selected detergent;
- vacuum the carpet at full suction power;
- replace the chemical mixture with clean water and repeat the cleaning procedure;
- dry the pile with a suction nozzle.
When using a new detergent composition, it must be checked in a small inconspicuous area.
Even if the composition says it is suitable for specific products, such as jute, do not neglect the verification stage. It is easier to spend a few extra minutes than sue the composition manufacturer for months because of a spoiled carpet.
The beauty of folk methods is that they are time-tested. They were used back in those days when vacuum cleaners and special chemicals were not yet available, and carpets were made of more capricious natural fibres.
Most folk remedies do not harm either the pile or the health of the inhabitants of the apartment.
But these gentle compositions are not always able to cope with old stains and intense pollution.
This tool has been known for a very long time. Soda has many advantages:
- high efficiency;
- low cost.
Minus – soda can not be applied to palaces made of silk.
You can use a pure powder for dry cleaning or a soda and water mixture for wet cleaning.
In the first case, the work takes place in three stages:
- The carpet vacuums.
- The entire surface is abundantly covered with dry soda and left for 30 minutes.
- Soda is carefully vacuumed in the direction of the pile.
In case of severe contamination, all stages should be repeated 2-3 times.
For wet cleaning, a mixture of a glass of soda and 10 liters of water is prepared.
It is applied to the palace with a spray gun and left until completely dry. After that, the floor covering is carefully vacuumed from the remnants of soda.
An important point: you can not walk on the wet pile. Otherwise, it will be jammed along with dirt and soda. From this, it will stick together when it dries and quickly becomes contaminated again.
Soda and vinegar
Before cleaning the house, pets, young children, and people prone to allergic reactions should be removed.
- The carpet is evenly sprinkled with soda, and after half an hour, it is carefully vacuumed.
- The mixture is prepared in 1 tbsp—vinegar 9% per 1 liter of water. The composition is sprayed on the surface of the palace with a spray gun (not exceedingly abundantly).
- After 30 minutes, the carpet vacuums in the direction of the pile.
Tough stains are removed with a more concentrated solution. To prepare it, you will need 4 tbsp. L table vinegar, 1 tbsp. l. soda and 50 ml of water.
When mixing the components, vinegar and soda will react with abundant foam release. Therefore, the solution must be applied to the spot (from the spray gun) before the reaction ceases. In this case, the foam will “push” the dirt, cleaning the pile.
The composition is left on the surface of the stain until completely dry, after which the remnants of the product are removed with a vacuum cleaner.
This improvised tool is in every home. Cleaning is elementary:
- Salt is evenly scattered on the surface;
- The carpet is cleaned with a brush “on the pile.”
- A vacuum cleaner collects salt residues.
For such cleaning, you should not take too hard a brush; it can damage the fibers.
If you fill the palace not with pure salt but with a mixture of soda and NaCl, you can remove dust and dirt from the pile and unpleasant odours.
In this case, before starting work with a brush, you need to leave the dry mixture on the carpet for 20-30 minutes.
This method is not suitable for cleaning the carpet entirely. With the help of toothpaste, only individual spots are removed.
Because the compositions of different toothpaste can be very different, it is worth checking the effect of the selected product on the carpet before cleaning. This is especially true of whitening pastes.
There are two ways to remove a stain:
- Mix the paste with a bit of water and beat with a brush. The resulting foam is applied to the contamination and rubbed into the stain with a brush. After complete drying, the contamination is re-treated with a meeting, and then the remnants of the paste are removed by a vacuum cleaner;
- The contaminated place is slightly wetted with water from a spray bottle. Then toothpaste is applied to it directly from the tube. The foam is whipped with a brush straight on the pile. Finally, a vacuum cleaner removes dried paste.
Regardless of the chosen cleaning option, before working, you need to remove dust and debris from the carpet carefully (with a broom, brush, or vacuum cleaner).
If this is not done, then the dirt can be rubbed into the carpet along with toothpaste.
In this case, any dishwashing detergent will do. The main thing is that it gives abundant foam.
The method with detergent for dishes is suitable for removing old stains and unpleasant odours from synthetic and semi-synthetic products.
It is forbidden to apply this method to carpets made of natural fabrics, wool, and silk.
For cleaning, you will need:
- large capacity (to fit all the foam);
- Fairey (1 tsp.) or any other detergent for dishes without bleach in the composition;
- soda (1 tsp.);
- vinegar (1 tbsp);
- water (1 tbsp.);
- medium stiffness brush;
- spray gun;
- vacuum cleaner.
All components are mixed in a large container. Vinegar is poured in last, as, after its addition, a lot of foam is formed due to the reaction with vinegar.
The resulting mixture is applied to the stain from the spray gun and left for a few minutes. After that, the dirt is removed with a brush. The dried pile vacuums.
Starch is best used to clean light and white carpets. On the dark and bright floors, coverings from this carbohydrate may appear whitish coating.
To remove stains and dirt, the starch is evenly scattered on a pre-vacuumed palace. Next, the pile is cleaned with a not too stiff brush. Ten minutes after the end of cleaning, the remnants of starch are collected by a vacuum cleaner.
One of the easiest and fastest ways. The main thing is to pre-check the selected brand in an inconspicuous area.
A vacuum cleaner removes large garbage. Shaving foam is applied to a clean wet sponge and then rubbed into stains on the carpet. After drying, the cleaned carpet must be re-vacuumed.
Ammonia remarkably removes stains from a variety of juices and wine from the pile. Because of the pungent smell, the only nuance is that you need to work in a respirator and protective equipment (gloves, glasses).
The cleaning algorithm is straightforward:
- The flooring is vacuumed.
- A mixture of 2 tsp of ammonia and 1 liter of water is prepared.
- Brush, moistened in the resulting composition, erases stains and dirt.
- Ten minutes after the end of cleaning, the pile is wiped with a clean, dry cloth.
It is desirable to work with open windows or to ventilate the room well after cleaning.
In the snow
The old “grandfather’s” way, which has more than one hundred years. This method can be used only in cold, snowy winter. Dirty or wet snow is not suitable for cleaning.
The carpet is carefully vacuumed, after which it is taken outside and spread out in the snow.
First, the base is cleaned. To do this, the carpet is spread, pile up, and covered with a layer of snow (3-5 cm) from above.
After that, the palace is gently tapped with a knocker, or you need to carefully walk along with it without leaving “untrampled” areas.
Snow from the palace is swept away by a broom; the mat is transferred to a clean place and repeated.
To clean the pile, the floor covering is covered in the snow with the base up.
A layer of snow is poured over the carpet and tapped with knockers. The remains of the snow are swept away, and the palace is transferred to a clean place. The procedure is repeated until the snow under the carpet after knocking out will not remain pristine.
The process of shaking out is quite long and time-consuming. But such general cleaning provides the carpet with cleanliness and a fresh frosty aroma. In addition, the colours become brighter and the pile softer.
Soap 72% should be dissolved in water. The soap mixture should be opaque. To speed up the process, soap can be grated on a coarse grater.
In the resulting solution, a brush is moistened, which cleans the pile. Next, stains and places with solid contaminants are wiped with special care. After that, the palace is wiped with a clean cloth and dried.
The advantage of the method with household soap is that it cleans the carpet and disinfects it.
This is especially important in homes where there are young children.
The disadvantage of this method is not the too pleasant the aroma of household soap. Instead, this smell is quite persistent and can last for several days after cleaning.
Given the whitening properties of hydrogen peroxide, it should be used with great care. Before using this drug, it is necessary to test it on an inconspicuous area of the carpet.
If everything is in order and peroxide does not discolour the pile, this method will help get rid of spots of animal origin (blood, urine).
In this case, the solution will not only remove impurities but also eliminate unpleasant odours.
To prepare a cleaning agent, you will need:
- water – 1 cup (preferably warm);
- peroxide – 150 ml;
- baking soda – 100 gr.
All ingredients are thoroughly mixed. The resulting solution is applied to the spots through a spray bottle. The mixture should be left on the pile for 10-20 minutes. After that, the stain is well washed with clean water and dried.
Summer method of carpet cleaning, which is suitable for use in cottages and private homes.
Cleaning does not cause any particular difficulties:
- The palace spreads out on a clean flat surface. Asphalt, concrete, or tiles will do.
- Debris and dust are swept away from the pile. The surface is moistened from a garden watering can or hose.
- Washing powder is scattered on the wet pile and rubbed with a brush until foam is formed.
- The washed carpet is rinsed thoroughly. There will be a lot of foam, so it is better to wash the pile from a garden hose than a watering can.
- For drying, the palace is hung on the support with a pile inside (so as not to burn out). It is better to turn when the water drains slightly, so the product will not be so heavy.
Such cleaning is best carried out on hot sunny days so that the base and pile have time to dry well. It is also worth remembering that this method is not suitable for carpets made of viscose and other natural fibres.
In some cases, very original compositions are used to clean carpets. But the authors of the ideas assure of the effectiveness of these recipes.
To implement this method, cabbage is suitable, which was fermented without vinegar. It is washed until the specific smell is eliminated and evenly scattered on the carpet.
Next, the cabbage is moved around the palace with a brush or broom until it becomes dirty. After that, it is collected, washed, and repeated the procedure.
The process lasts until the cabbage remains relatively clean after “rolling” on the carpet.
At the end of harvesting, the remains of sauerkraut are removed from the pile using a vacuum cleaner.
Quite a controversial method, as there is a high probability of appearance on the pile of stains from tea. You should not try this method on light products, but it is unlikely to damage a dark carpet.
For cleaning, you will need fresh, still wet brewing. From black or green tea – it does not matter. It crumbles in places of contamination and is left until completely dry. Then it is collected by a vacuum cleaner.
Kerosene and laundry detergent
This tandem is effective for synthetic and wool flooring.
The powder is diluted in water according to the instructions. Kerosene is added to the resulting mixture at the rate of 1 tsp per liter of water.
Stains are cleaned with this composition with a brush or sponge.
The method is quite effective but not very popular. A strong smell that does not weather for several days, or even weeks, makes this method unclaimed.
Gasoline and sawdust
Another food-smelling but effective way.
To implement this method, you will need:
- soap or laundry detergent.
A soapy solution is prepared from water and soap, in which gasoline is added in a ratio of 1 to 10 (100 ml of gasoline per litre of water). In the resulting mixture, sawdust is soaked and evenly scattered on the carpet.
After the sawdust dries, they have swept away. The carpet vacuums or breaks out.
This vegetable method is based on starch, which is contained in tubers. For its extraction, potatoes are washed and rubbed on a fine grater. The resulting mass is soaked in icy water for an hour. Next, the mixture is filtered, and the potatoes are squeezed.
Cleaning of the palace takes place with the help of the resulting starch liquid. A brush or sponge is dipped in it, and dirt is cleaned in the direction of the pile.
The remnants of the cleaning composition are removed with a brush moistened in clean water, and the paths are dried.
The process of making solid “soap” for carpets is quite long and time-consuming. But the finished material can be stored for months and used if necessary.
For cooking, you will need:
- wheat flour (6 parts);
- table salt (1 piece);
- ground pumice (1 article). The size of the particles should resemble coarse salt;
- wine vinegar (3 parts);
- some water.
All ingredients are mixed and heated over low heat. As the temperature rises, the mixture will begin to thicken. It must be brought to the consistency of a dense paste and then cooled.
After solidification, it will resemble soap in its texture. The finished mixture can be cut into convenient pieces, which rub the carpet in the direction of the pile during cleaning. The remains of the “soap” are removed from the carpet with a brush or vacuum cleaner.
Professional methods are used when you need to clean the carpet thoroughly. It is better to do this in the summer so that the pile dries as quickly as possible. On a wet nap, dirt sticks very rapidly, and the effect of cleaning comes to nought in just a few days.
This brand has developed a whole series of products for carpet cleaning. The line includes:
Each tool has its characteristics of use. When applying, the main thing is to follow the instructions and observe security measures.
All drugs of the series are pretty effective and universal. Vanish can not be used only on handmade carpets; it is acceptable for all other floor coverings.
This unit perfectly removes dust and old stains, kills dust mites, and disinfects fibres. It is perfect for allergy sufferers, asthmatics, families with young children, and pets. After all, in addition to dirt, it kills mould and pathogenic bacteria.
It is worth noting that budget manual steam cleaners are not suitable for cleaning carpets. These units are too low-powered.
They cannot produce a jet of steam sufficient to break through the log pile to the palace’s base.
Before work, it is necessary to study the label of the carpet. Not all models can be exposed to moisture and high temperatures. The colour may change, the adhesive composition of the base may crumble, or the pile may deteriorate.
The essence of cleaning with a steam generator is simple.
- A cleaning solution is poured into the unit (carpet detergent is mixed with water) according to the instructions.
- Then the entire surface of the palace is treated with a steam cleaner. Pre-carpet it is desirable to vacuum with an ordinary vacuum cleaner to remove large debris and some dust.
- Adamant stains can be additionally moistened (from a spray bottle) with a carpet cleaner.
Although the steam cleaner draws moisture along with dust and dirt, it cannot drain the carpet perfectly. The wetter the pile, the faster it will re-contaminate.
Therefore, before starting the cleaning, you need to plan the route so that the steam generator does not pass through the same place twice (if possible). In this case, the fibres will receive a minimum of moisture and dry faster.
An important point: you can not remove protein stains (blood, milk, eggs, etc.) with steam. Under the influence of high temperature, the protein will curd, after which it will not be able to be removed even in a professional dry cleaner.
A steam mop is a type of steam cleaner. Therefore, all the above checks and warnings apply to this unit.
The principle of operation of the mop is also similar:
- the carpet is cleaned with a conventional vacuum cleaner;
- the procedure is repeated with a steam mop in the tank of which the solution for cleaning carpets is poured.
The difference between a mop and a professional steam cleaner is that there is no suction mode, so all the moisture from the container will remain in the palace. The dirt will not go anywhere, it will soften under the influence of steam, but you will have to clean it with clean rags and brushes. After that, it is desirable to dry the product thoroughly.
Entrusting your flooring to professionals, you can be sure that they will correctly select the cleaning composition. Consequently, the stains will go away, the pile does not water, the base will not spread, and the carpet will become new. Home remedies such as results are almost impossible to achieve.
But dry cleaning has several drawbacks:
- the cost of work starts from 100 rubles per square meter (in regional centres, prices can be several times higher);
- “at home” not everyone works. Tough stains will have to be removed in the dry cleaner with the removal of the palace. Problems with small mats usually do not arise, but the delivery of dimensional products to the place and back can cost more than cleaning;
- Not all organizations promise to “effectively clean” the product know-how to work with carpets. There is a chance that the palace will be hopelessly damaged due to improperly selected chemical composition or cleaning technology. Naturally, the cost of possible compensation will not cover the price of the carpet.
If you find professionals, they will give a second life even to a filthy carpet from the kitchen. In this case, the product will return not only clean but also pleasantly smelling.
Car wash, mini-wash
Car owners may well use their mini-washers (Kercher and analogues) to clean carpets. Car washes use the same units but in a more powerful version.
A cleaning solution is poured into the tank of the mini-wash cold. A stream of water with detergent washes the dust from the palace.
The softened dirt is cleaned with brushes, and the carpet from the mini-wash is rinsed several times (until clean water without foam begins to drain from it).
After that, the carpet is hung out for drying. It is best to carry out such cleaning on hot summer days.
This universal tool, according to manufacturers, cleanses everything.
The magical powder is diluted according to the instructions on the package. When dissolved, these granules release a lot of foam. You can remove stains on large carpets with a sponge moistened in the resulting composition.
Small floorboards can be washed in the cleaning product entirely (if the product’s composition allows for such procedures).
The disadvantage of Greenway products is that it is not on the market. Like all network products (Faberlic, Avon, etc.), they can be ordered only through consultants.
Large cleaning companies use this unit for wet cleaning of flooring in cottages, apartments, restaurants, hotels, etc. Such cleaning removes up to 90% of all contaminants and disinfects fibres.
An extractor is, in a sense, a more potent analogue of a washing vacuum cleaner. This unit, under high pressure, knocks deep into the fibres cleaning composition.
And then, with the help of a vacuum nozzle, it removes dirt and foam residues from the palace. For a better result, you need to clean with an extractor and the pile, and the wrong side of the carpet.
Despite the high power of the device, the palace, after cleaning, remains quite wet. Complete drying will take at least 10 hours. The exact time depends on the composition and length of the pile.
It is forbidden to clean carpets with this tool. It is suitable only for carpets, and then, it can be used only in diluted form (50 ml per 5 litres of water). Such a detergent composition will remove stains from the floor covering, kill microbes living in a pile, and eliminate unpleasant odours (children’s or dog urine, etc.).
Due to the aggressiveness of the product, before using this method, the detergent composition must be checked on an inconspicuous area of the carpet. If everything is in order, the divorced Domestos is applied to a sponge or brush and wash off the stains from the floor covering. After that, wash the working area with clean water.
Dry carpet cleaning is considered a gentle method. Most of these chemical compositions practically do not harm the floor covering. They can be applied weekly. This is convenient in homes with small children or “ill-mannered” pets – when it is impossible to wash the palace often at home.
There is a wide range of dry cleaning products on the market. Most often, they are available in the form of adsorbing powders or dry foams.
In the list of the most popular cleaning compositions can be made:
- Vanish Oxi Action. This is an effective but quite expensive moistened powder (about 900 rubles. per pack). Instructions for using Vanish for manual cleaning of carpets are elementary. The powder is evenly scattered on the floor covering, and after drying (about 20 minutes), is collected by a vacuum cleaner. During this time, the composition has time to absorb all the dust and dirt. Such cleaning can be carried out regularly at home, without taking the palace outside;
- Tuba. This German remedy is available in the form of foam-aerosol. It is enough to spray it on a stain, rub it into a contaminated area and leave it for two hours. After drying, the foam is collected by a vacuum cleaner. The only drawback of the composition is that it is not sold in ordinary stores, only on the Internet;
- Nordland. A more budget but less effective option for active foam. The method of application is similar to Tuba. Extraordinary miracles from the drug should not be expected. Carpet will refresh, dust and dirt will remove, but Norland will not draw tough and old spots.
Regardless of the chosen tool, it is necessary to read the instructions before using it. It should clearly state that the composition is suitable for a specific type of carpet.
It is also worth observing safety measures; most active foams have a rather sharp and concentrated smell, which can cause an attack in asthmatics and allergy sufferers.
Features of cleaning of different types
The choice of cleaning method is highly dependent on the colour and composition of the floor covering. You need to take care of a light carpet or a fluffy carpet with a large pile. In utterly different ways choosing the wrong method can lead to irretrievable damage to the product.
There are a lot of types of carpet. All of them consist of three elements:
- fixing layer;
As a basis can act: textiles, jute, felt, rubber or latex.
There are even more options for materials for the pile:
Synthetic and semi-synthetic carpet is unpretentious. It can be cleaned with almost any professional and folk remedy.
It allows the use of a washing vacuum cleaner and wet cleaning methods. The main thing is to pre-check it in an inconspicuous area before using a particular way.
Carpet cleaning is complicated by the fact that it covers the entire floor. It often has massive furniture, so it is impossible to take this floor covering to a dry cleaner or car wash.
Therefore, the issue of washing the carpet disappears. Hypothetically, synthetic flooring can withstand contact with water, but in reality, it can only be cleaned with steam or treated with a washing vacuum cleaner. And then, you need to do this with great care because it is impossible to take the carpet out on the street for drying. Excess moisture can lead not only to re-contamination but also to the formation of mould.
Carpet made of natural materials is more capricious. Only dry cleaning and gentle formulations are suitable for it. Therefore, tough spots from such a floor covering are much more difficult to remove.
With long pile (shaggy)
Long carpets look very beautiful and stylish. It is pleasant to walk barefoot on them, but it is tough to clean a long pile qualitatively. Debris and dust hide deep in the bowels of the fibres. Most models of vacuum cleaners are not able to extract all the accumulated dirt from the pile.
Of particular difficulty is the cleaning of natural carpets. Shaggy can not be washed, only vacuumed or cheerfully spanked with a knocker. And even then, not very often, so as not to damage the long pile. Therefore, the owners of such models without the services of professional dry cleaners can not do especially if the palace has a light colour.
To natural mats with high piles, dry cleaning can be applied. But the model of the vacuum cleaner should be compelling. For example, scatter soda or salt on the surface and collect with a vacuum cleaner.
If soda particles or other cleaning agents remain in the fibres, the pile will stick together, and the carpet’s appearance will only worsen.
Owners of synthetic shaggy do not live much more accessible. In addition to the above methods, they can only clean with snow and a washing vacuum cleaner.
The vacuum cleaner model should be spelt out that it is suitable for carpets with long piles. But not every household unit will do. Low-power devices will not cope with shaggy, spoiling the product.
With short pile
Carpets with short piles are the most unpretentious. They can be cleaned of dust in any of the above ways. The main thing is to take into account the type of base and pile. Synthetic models have practically no restrictions, but with natural palaces, you need to act more carefully.
Most carpets have a short pile. Since they are designed for corridors and hallways, such mats try to make them as unpretentious as possible. Usually, rugs are made of synthetic and semi-synthetic fibres.
To clean such products, it is enough to study the label carefully. If there are no natural materials in the composition, the track can be washed in any above ways.
Carpets of light colours are the most branded and capricious. All stains and dirt from such a surface should be removed as quickly as possible. It is brutal altogether to remove old soil from a light floor carpet.
Soda, salt, starch, and other white cleaners quickly and effectively refresh light carpets. There are no whitish stains on such a surface, which sometimes happens with palaces of dark colours.
The easiest way to remove stains from plain white carpets. Fresh dirt is removed with a clean cloth, after which the colour is wetted with diluted hydrogen peroxide.
Wool products are very inconsistent. They can’t be wet. Therefore, steam generators, washing vacuum cleaners, and other types of wet cleaning are unacceptable. For thoroughly (100%) woollen carpets, only dry types of cleaning are allowed.
It is also worth considering the composition of the paints. For natural wool, not such persistent colouring compositions are used as for synthetics. Therefore, the effects of household chemicals or high temperatures (drying in the sun) can burn out the colours.
Universal cleaning formulations are not suitable for wool products, even if the tool is designed specifically for cleaning the palaces.
The label should clearly state that this product is suitable for woollen carpets.
Separately, it is worth noting semi-woollen carpets. The second 50% of the product may contain synthetic fibres, cotton, or viscose.
Synthetics is the easiest. In this case, it is permissible to use gentle types of wet cleaning (washing vacuum cleaner, steam generator). The main thing after contact with moisture is to dry the product well away from heaters and direct sunlight.
Semi-woollen mats, which have viscose or cotton in their composition, are even more capricious.
When in contact with water, not only can paints float on them or wool stick together – the whole product can deform and lose its original shape (sit down).
In addition, cotton carpet, if it is not immediately dried, can rot from excess moisture.
Do not confuse products made of natural and artificial silk.
Identifying synthetics is very simple. It is enough to burn a few villi.
If they begin to melt and emit the smell of burning paper – this is an artificial product. Such palaces are not particularly fastidious and cleaned like common synthetics. The main thing is to check the paints for resistance to the detergent composition.
Natural handmade silk carpets, when burning, emit the smell of burnt hair. They need to be handled much more delicately.
Such works of art cannot:
- apply aggressive detergents;
- use sharp mechanical manipulations (it is forbidden to clean with a washing vacuum cleaner, use a nozzle with a brush, etc.);
- expose to high temperatures (steam generator, drying with a hairdryer – prohibited);
- Allow the formation of old dirt (all fresh stains should be removed immediately).
Gentle cleaning products are acceptable, as well as contact with water. Silk carpets can even be washed, but very carefully.
If you need to carry out wet cleaning of the carpet, then this is done in several stages:
- The product is carefully vacuumed at minimum power using a smooth nozzle (do not press on the pile). You need to work along the direction of the bank. The slightest damage to the fibres will lead to the fact that the villi will begin to disintegrate;
- Detergent composition is prepared strictly according to the instructions;
- Soft sponge is wetted in a cleaning product and squeezed to a semi-dry state;
- The pile is cleaned very carefully, with blotting movements;
- Moisture is carefully removed with a dry cloth;
- The final drying should take place naturally (without the use of hairdryers and heaters).
Before starting the cleaning, the selected detergent should be checked on an inconspicuous area of the product. You can only use natural carpets products, such as Selena Kovrol, Help, or Nordland.
In summer, a gentle wash is allowed. In winter, silk carpets can be cleaned with snow. After any cleaning method, the product must be thoroughly dried.
Viscose is made from wood cellulose. It is a type of paper. Therefore, you can not allow the contact of the carpet of viscose with water – it is deformed with abundant wetness, and when drying, it becomes rigid. Washing, steam generators, washing vacuum cleaners, washing and wet cleaning methods are prohibited.
As for dry cleaning, folk methods (salt, soda, etc.) and household chemicals for cleaning carpets (vanish dry powder, active foams, etc.) are permissible.
Any liquid that gets on the carpet should be removed as quickly as possible. Wet spots are gently wet with dry wipes or paper towels.
With jute carpets, everything is more accessible than with products made of viscose. Mats made of this material have two advantages at once:
- such palaces do not have piles, so much less dust accumulates in them;
- for the manufacture of taken quite strong, resistant to wear threads.
The main problem with jute mats is possible spots. When drying, juices, wines, tea, and other liquids leave traces on the surface of the fibres that are almost impossible to remove.
When a spot appears, you need to act very quickly. Collect warm water (but not hot) in the container and wipe the contamination with a brush, lying it regularly.
If pure water is powerless, you can prepare a vinegar mixture and water mixed in equal proportions.
Chemical compositions can be used, but the label should be honestly spelt out to be suitable for jute products.
You can not wholly wet the mats. Due to the high density, such products dry for a very long time, leading to mould or deformation.
Although jute is resistant to mechanical damage (it can even be scraped with a knife), it does not tolerate high temperatures. Therefore, it is impossible to dry such carpets with a hairdryer or near the heater. For the same reason, cleaning with steam generators and washing vacuum cleaners is prohibited.
Jacquard is not a material but a way of weaving. In such carpets, the fibres are located very often and densely. In this case, the length of the pile usually does not exceed 10 mm.
Due to the product’s high density, dust penetrates less deep into the fibres, making it easier to care for such palaces.
Such weaving can be made of almost any type of fibre. As for the composition, jacquard can be synthetic, and woollen, and viscose carpet. Therefore, when choosing a cleaning method, you must first pay attention to the label, taking into account the composition of a particular product.
