For the kitchen to be pleasant and comfortable to cook, it is necessary to monitor kitchen utensils’ cleanliness carefully. One of the most difficult aspects of cleaning the kitchen is cleaning the pans. No matter how you monitor their condition, sooner or later, you will have to take radical measures – for example, look for a way to remove soot from the pan or wash burnt rancid oil, which spoils the dishes also brings an unpleasant smell to the room.
In a dirty frying pan, cooking is not only inconvenient but also unpleasant.
In this article, we have collected various ways to care for pans – from daily to urgent, which may be needed if the product is burned or the pan has not been cleaned for a long time.
Let’s start with the main enemy of cleanliness of kitchen utensils – soot.
How to clean a Teflon pan from soot
Since Teflon pans are covered with a special non-stick layer, their surface burns less than other models. However, with the improper or too long operation, carbon deposits still occur.
The Teflon frying pan should be cleaned carefully so as not to scratch.
You can use a mild non-abrasive remedy or use one of the folk remedies:
- One of the most popular ways is to use citric acid or vinegar. Add half a cup of nine percent acetic solution or a bag of acid to the pan, then pour water. Turn on the heat and leave the container until the liquid boils. After that, you will need to wait for cooling, pour the mixture, and rinse the vessel. If the soot is not old, it will go away. Finally, you have to wipe the utensils dry – they will shine with pristine purity.
- Another simple method is to clean the pan with soda. As in the previous method, you need to add a few spoonfuls of soda to the water and leave it to boil. After that, it is enough to wash off the liquid and rinse the vessel. However, keep in mind that on-colored Teflon soda can leave not too aesthetic divorces.
- An interesting and environmentally friendly way to quickly clean the pan is to use raw apple sour varieties. First, you need to grind the fruit in puree and squeeze the juice. Then, with this mixture, grate the dishes from the outside and inside – the method is suitable for cleaning the pan from the outside and reliably hitting the burn from the inside. The applesauce should be left for 15-20 minutes and then rinse with a soft sponge under warm water.
As you can see, there are several methods for cleaning a Teflon pan from soot. In addition, you can use a variety of chemicals.
Important! Detergents should not contain abrasives and active chemicals, especially chlorine. Otherwise, the non-stick coating will be deformed, and the pan will become unusable.
How to clean a cast-iron frying pan from soot?
Strong and durable cast iron pans are used in almost every second kitchen. However, they have one significant drawback – to wash them from burning, especially old, is quite difficult. A simple sponge and dishwashing detergent will not be enough – they will not cope with a coarse layer of dirt.
Cast iron frying pan is difficult to clean but realistic.
We share with you a few recipes for how you can clean a cast iron pan:
- The easiest way is to buy a special detergent in a hardware store. Unlike fragile non-stick coatings, released iron tolerates even abrasives well. On the other hand, you will have to wash the dishes thoroughly after using them – when ingested or heated, the active substances can be toxic. Consider this when buying.
- You can clean a cast iron pan with a mixture of vinegar and ordinary table salt. Mix them into a liquid gruel and apply to the pan from the inside, and if necessary, from the outside. Then rub with a hard sponge. Please note: this method is only suitable for cast iron pans! In no case do not use it on dishes with non-stick coating.
- Residents of private houses can experience an exciting method for cleaning a cast-iron frying pan. First, you need to calve the words on the fire – the burn itself will fall off in a few minutes. Second, it is better not to experiment in the house on the stove – when heated, soot emits a very unpleasant aroma.
How to clean an aluminum frying pan from soot
Thin aluminum is quite easy to damage; besides, it quickly becomes covered with a layer of burning if you overheat the pan on the stove. Finally, we draw your attention to the fact that such pans are recognized as not too safe – maybe it is better not to suffer, trying to wash them, but replace them with more modern dishes?
If you scratch a frying pan, you will not be allowed to use it.
If for some reason, you do not want to do this, we share recipes that will help clean the pan from the eldest black soot:
- First, you can use the already proven method recommended for cleaning cast iron pans – calve an aluminum product on fire. In addition to removing even the most eaten burn in this way, you can visually update your pan – small scratches under the influence of heat are masked.
- Take a 10-liter bucket and prepare the solution. To do this, take a pound of salt ash, laundry soap, and a few bottles of silicate glue. Pour the ingredients with ten liters of water and dip the pan into the mixture. Then leave the bucket on the fire. After 30-40 minutes, the soot will gradually begin to come off the surface. However, keep in mind that this method is quite time-consuming. In addition, if you overdo it with the amount of glue, the pan will be covered with a cloudy coating, which is very difficult to wash.
- Silicate solutions can be purchased in a hardware store and not done independently. In this case, you will need gloves to prevent hand injuries. In no case do not allow the mixture to contact the skin – it can leave serious chemical burns. In addition, you will need to ventilate the room well after using the solution.
- If you don’t want to bother making a mixture, buy a special chemical solution. But don’t forget to wear rubber gloves when you get to work. And after its completion, be sure to ventilate the room.
However, once again, we focus your attention on the fact that using aluminum pans without a protective coating is undesirable. So think carefully about whether you should experiment with time-consuming ways to remove soot for the sake of dishes of dubious safety.
How to clean a non-stick ceramic frying pan from soot
The easiest way to prevent the formation of ceramic pans – they arise that is characterized by increased fragility. Therefore it is undesirable to use aggressive chemical or abrasive agents for their cleaning.
We recommend wiping ceramic pans with a soft cloth or microfiber cloth after each use. If there are small pieces of food, it is enough to wipe the surface with a napkin with a small amount of olive oil.
Nagar can’t be removed? Pour the oil and hold it in a heated frying pan for 5-10 minutes. Then gently remove the food residue.
If you remove the soot immediately, it will quickly move away.
If this method does not work, dilute the detergent (without abrasive particles and aggressive elements) in a small amount of warm water and pour the pan for an hour. All the dirt has to come away.
If you used a ceramic frying pan to cook deep-fried foods, there is a risk that muddy stains will remain on the surface. They can appear because the oil is not too high quality. In this case, ordinary alcohol will help clean the ceramic pan – carefully dilute it in water in the consistency of 1 to 1, and then wipe the bottom of the pan with a soft cloth moistened in solution.
You shouldn’t do that! Sometimes you can find recommendations to use soda to clean a ceramic pan. We do not advise you to do this: stains and dirt, of course, will go away. However, you will have to restore the non-stick properties of the surface for a long time. Also, any food will burn, even when using enough oil.
How to clean a copper frying pan from soot
Elegant copper pans are now popular – they look stylish, have excellent performance, are durable and environmentally friendly. However, it is quite difficult to clean them from soot – the surface is easy to damage.
Expensive copper utensils need careful care.
Given that the price of such pans starts from 7 thousand rubles, I would like to avoid trouble.
We share ways to clean copper pans:
- Due to the peculiarities of the metal, the carbon does not remain on the copper thick layer. Therefore, it can be removed manually, mechanically. To do this, apply warm water with a weak soapy solution to the surface. Keep the dishes in this state for half an hour, then remove the dirt with a soft brush.
- In no case do not try to heat the pan – from this, it will be covered with unaesthetic stains, which are almost impossible to remove.
- It’s harder if the dirt on the copper is old. Such contaminants are called patina, and it is difficult to remove them at home – you will probably have to contact a workshop to restore metal products. However, you can experiment.
- Mix the finest iodized salt and lemon juice. Moisten the mixture with a soft sponge and gently rub the surface of the pan. It is important to cover the dishes with a mixture completely – otherwise, it will shine unevenly. Rinse off the solution with cool water without solid pressure with a sponge. When finished, wipe the copper pan to adjourn and evaluate the work. If necessary, repeat the procedure until the result satisfies you.
Important! A pan made of copper must be wiped dry after each use, otherwise soon, the cute shine will completely disappear, and it will be impossible to restore it.
How to clean pans of fat
While removing greasy stains is much easier than soot, you may need folk recipes to wash burnt oil or fat from a frying pan.
Do not let the fat dry – wash it off immediately.
There are several effective and safe ways:
- If the fat has not yet had time to dry, it is enough to apply a few drops of dishwashing detergent and dilute them with hot water. Leave the pan for an hour until the water cools. Then gently wipe the fat with a sponge, rinse the pan several times. Wipe it off. If necessary, repeat the manipulations.
- For old grease stains, you can use a special oven product. Spray it onto the contaminated parts of the pan and then wrap it in a polyethylene bag. Try to close the bag as tightly as possible. Leave it in this form for a day. Then rinse the pan with a regular detergent and wipe it off and wipe it off – all the fat will go away.
- Well removes fat from the pan mixture of vinegar and soda. Mix them in equal proportions into a gruel and apply to the pan for 10-15 minutes. However, please note that for Teflon and ceramic pans, this method is not suitable.
Remove rusty stains
Most modern materials for kitchen utensils are not affected by corrosion and rust. However, steel or cast iron pans can become covered with rusty stains, especially if you forgot to wipe them dry. Removing not too old rust is easy – especially if you use our recommendations.
If you try, you can even update such a frying pan.
- White vinegar essence has proven itself effectively. Just apply it to the rust for half an hour with a soft sponge. Sometimes the manipulation has to be repeated several times, but the result is very effective and, most importantly, harmless to the material not affected by corrosion.
- Well copes with a rust mixture of lemon juice and table salt. Sprinkle the surface with salt, heat on the stove, and pour lemon juice. It is necessary to withstand this mixture for at least three hours.
- You can also use a mixture of lemon juice and borax, which should be applied directly to rusty specks and kept for several hours.
